I’m not afraid to admit that I spend an embarrassing amount of time on Instagram. Flicking through my feed is an all-day activity for me, and I never get tired of discovering awesome accounts and watching stories. I was a bit pissed initially when Instagram changed from the chronological feed to whatever-the-fuck algorithm is in place now, but like a mild lover’s tiff, I moved on pretty quickly and am over it now.

What makes Instagram so great? Many things that are all subjective, but one of the reasons I love it so much is for the positivity that people are spreading via the funky and creative images they share. In particular, those related to sexuality, sexual health and self-love.

As an avid sex and pussy positivity advocate, and it touches my heart to scroll through my feed and see the many wonderful posts with affirming messages.

Here are five fantastic accounts promoting sexual health and pussy positivity that you really need to get amongst right now.

The Vulva Gallery @the.vulva.gallery

This account literally gives me life, and is full of fantastic illustrations celebrating the diversity of every kind of vulva out there, inclusive of gender, colour, size, shape or body type.

The artwork is created by Amsterdam based illustrator Hilde Atlanta, who is passionate about educating women to embrace the natural variety of their vulvas.

In the past decade, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of labiaplasty surgeries, which are not often medically indicated and performed for purely for cosmetic purposes due to poor ‘genital self-image’.

Hilde:

In my opinion, labiaplasty because of cosmetic reasons isn’t a good development. No vulva-owning individual should have to undergo this just because they want their vulva to look like the ones they see on the internet (for example in porn), or like what they think other people expect them to look.

The only way to change the way individuals experience their bodies is to educate them, and others, about natural variety. I hope that The Vulva Gallery can contribute in changing the way people view vulvas, by showing them that all vulvas are perfect just the way they are. Because diversity is beautiful.

Her Period @her.period

The @her.period account contains a plethora of amazing period-pussy-female-positive artwork depicting an array of vulvas, uteri and images promoting menstruation in an artistic, interesting and beautiful way.

The account was born when two years ago when its founders, Susan and Bel, realised there was a need for sanitary supplies within the homeless community. The account was created as a way to drum up donations towards their fundraising efforts.

While they found that receiving donations through the mail was not feasible, what happened through the account was beyond their expectations:

As we started curating these images, along with a positive message, people really responded. Both male and female. We have had a chance to meet some truly talented artists from around the world, all who want to share a positive message [through their artwork].

In addition to contributing to the “pussy-positive revolution on Instagram” Susan and Bel now run a fundraising drive every 3 to 4 months, and have also started donating sanitary supplies to a local women’s shelter as well as dispensing ’emergency’ bags to individuals living on the street.

Nature Yoni @natureyoni

The name of this account sums it up perfectly – it’s filled with beautiful images of yonis found in nature.

Created and run by keen hobby photographer, Buffy, the account began organically after she collected a number of photos of ‘nature yonis’ and wanted to share the images with others.

I thought it would highlight how many times the sacred yoni shape occurs in nature, sometimes as coincidence, and sometimes as function. Some photos are obvious, like sliced oranges, or an orchid. Others are a bit more obscure like a bruise on a grape, or the curve in the gills of a mushroom.

The account is the creative outlet that allows her to honour the Devine Feminine, and share her pussy positive message.

My intention with each photo is to convey the message that all yonis are unique, intricate, and beautiful.

Club Clitoris @clubclitoris

Club Clitoris is run by badass feminist, vegan, and vagina artist Meredith White.

Meredith’s artwork promotes the message for women to love their natural body, instead of comparing it to the unrealistic standards society has set out for us with the goal of exploiting female insecurity.

Our society creates problems with natural bodies and profits off the abuse of women.

Your vagina is normal, natural, and gorgeous, regardless of what the media tells you. I also illustrate proud body hair babes, and the naturalism of periods. The freedom to love your body without being humiliated or hating yourself is a basic human right. And I’ll keep fighting for that love.

Preach queen.

Fembroidery @fembroidery

The Fembroidery account features the imaginative needlework of Berlin artist Jana von Fembroidery, who transforms social and political messages into amazing embroidered art.

Combining the stereotypically feminine art form of needlepoint with provocative messages and funny slogans, she creates powerful art pieces. Her artwork includes depictions of natural variations in genitals, body positive messages as well as and anti rape and diet culture mottos.

Her Instagram account is also used to create a dialogue between her and her fans. She is open to questions, suggestions and criticism, and will even produce embroidered artwork upon request tailored to your message.
